FBI Investigates AT&T iPad Security Breach

Of course, AT&T has no comment.

NEW YORK – The FBI says it is investigating a data breach at AT&T that exposed the e-mail addresses of more than 114,000 owners of the Apple iPad, including government officials.

The agency said on Thursday that it is looking into “the potential cyber threat” from the breach.

AT&T Inc. said it has no comment. The Dallas-based phone company acknowledged Wednesday that it had exposed the e-mail addresses through a Web site, and had closed the breach.

The vulnerability only affected iPad users who signed up for AT&T’s “3G” wireless Internet service.

An AT&T Web site could be tricked into revealing an iPad owner’s e-mail address when supplied with a code associated with their particular iPad. A hacker group that calls itself Goatse Security said it got the site to cough up more than 114,000 e-mail addresses by guessing which codes would be valid.

No Polishing This Apple OS

Android versus Apple OSHas Apple lost its cool?

Having entered the mobile software market late with its Android offering, Google's initial efforts were a pale imitation of the iPhone OS, a clunky user experience on sub-par handsets. Fast forward to 2010. Suddenly, Google Android is winning over the hearts and minds of technologists and signing up 100,000 converts a day.

That raises the question: Is the iPhone losing its sheen?

I am beginning to dislike Apple. From Steve Jobs' cockiness, to the Flash snub, to the fact that everybody owns a damned iPhone…and now the stupid iPad.

Okay, it's mostly jealousy :) They are damn fine looking products and they work well.

But I like Android. And I was forced to go there because Apple's only service provider is AT&T. When I quit working at AT&T (then SBC), I vowed never to buy another product or service from them. To my credit, I have held firm to that commitment I made to myself 6 years ago.
